Bowling at Park Lanes Bowling Center
http://www.parklanes.net |
| If you happen to be in the little city of Aloha, OR, and have a desire to go bowling -- I would recommend the fine establishment Dean Johnson owns and operates. During the daytime hours you will usually find Lonnie or Dean behind the desk ready to direct you to your favorite fun time experience. Once you bowl
at Park Lanes, or try any of the other fun family games available, you become caught in an atmosphere of clean fun. Dean, Lonnie, Tammy and the rest of the staff make Park Lanes one of the hot spots in Aloha. |
|
| Park Lanes has a game room with pool tables, and assorted electronic games for your children, or the child in you. Just outside on the west end of the building is a batting cage for those sports enthusiasts in your family. There is a restaurant located in the bowling establishment, and in my book, it is rated 4-star. The other side of the kitchen serves the meals and drinks to the folks who like to eat and bowl at the same time, or at least like the atmosphere of dining while watching bowlers in a huge 32-lane bowling arena. If you imbibe, well, there's more than enough room to belly up to the bar in the Lounge, located at the east end of the building. With the Oregon Lottery slot machines located in the lounge, you can imagine you are in Reno or Grand Ronde. Yes, Powerball and Megabucks are available to purchase. |
| There is a well-stocked Pro Shop and Dean Johnson is the local pro-bowler. Dean will personally fix you up with any bowling needs you might have, and if he doesn't have it - he will get it for you. He drilled a ball for me and I added 10 pins to my average. Park Lanes is the only bowling center I've been to where you can actually win free games while on a league. That could be because it is day time senior league. |

The play-off for 1st place in our 2nd half was with bowlers Tootie Zoucha, Ray Trainor, Walter Wilson, and Amy Cody of Team 12. The other team was High Kickers, consisting of bowlers Joan Dzienius, Tom Cleland, Eilleen Riddell, and Jack Rothwell. It started off with Team 12 bowling exceptionally well, all of team 12's players were well over their averages, and Amy rolled a game like a hurricane hitting the Florida Keys with a wind speed of 208 MPH, her 1st game was posted at 208 (her ave. is 135), and they managed to win the first game with 109 pins. Pin count didn't really matter in the play-off, because the team who wins 2 games would have the 1st place position (4 points is a winner in a play-off). The High Kickers came back strong in the second game with everyone bowling over their average except Eilleen. Jack managed a 209, and the team won by 70 points making the game tied one to one. The third game was about as exciting as it can get. The only bowlers bowling over their average were Eilleen of the High Kickers and Ray Trainor of Team 12. The final win by Team 12 happened when Eilleen rolled a spare and strike in the 10th, setting up a sure win for the High Kickers, then Jack missed a conversion in the 10th and Amy rolled a strike then picked up 8 pins to win by "One (1) point." -- That's when the Big Lady sang. Congratulations to Team 12's members on the win for the second half.
| In the first half, The Generals and the Team 11 tied with 77 games each and there wasn't a play-off. It was decided that all three teams, The Generals, Team 11, and Team 12 would assemble at Park Lanes next Monday and have a play-off. First place for the season will be determined from total pins of each team, plus handicap, for all three games... Good Luck and may the BEST TEAM WIN! |

Results are in -- The winner for the V.I.P. Seniors 04/05 Fall Leauge is Team 12
| Congratulations to: From left to right - Walter Wilson avg. 103, Amy Cody avg. 134, Tootie Zoucha avg. 117, Ray Trainor avg. 127. |
With the winner being decided by total pinfall from 3 games (counting handicap) "Winner Take All", it is a little non-descriptive to mention individual game scores, but here are some highlights of the 3 team play-off on lanes 19 - 20, and 21 - 22. There was a little dificulty in getting the entire teams together, and starting the play-off by 12:30 pm. Seems that when Amy picked up Tootie for the games, Ray was nowhere to be found, so they went to Park Lanes, and by 12:15 pm Ray hadn't made an apperance. I offered to take Tootie over to where Ray lives, and see if she could locate him. As we did that, we found Ray in front of his residence and brought him back to Park Lanes. After we returned, Tootie realized she had left the lanes with her bowling shoes on, and now they were wet shoes. Luckily, Tootie managed to dry them off sufficiently in the lady's room with the hand dryer before the games began.
The Generals started off real slow with George making a mark for the team by the end of the second frame - Team 12 had 2 X's made by Amy, and Team 11 boasted 7 marks. I watched the games level out, and everyone started to roll a fair ball down the lanes. Amy had a spurt of good bowling by picking up the 5-8-10 split in the 7th. The first game ended with (counting handicap) -- Generals = 717, Team 11 = 809, and Team 12 = 830.
The second game started to get a little exciting with Cal picking up a 5-7 split and Frank ending the last 5 frames with X's. The Generals fell off pace and below avg, but not to worry, it's total pins - not individual game scores - they could come back strong in the 3rd. Tootie and Amy were over avg. with Ray and Walter not far behind. The game scores were: Generals = 757, Team 11 = 801, Team 12 = 773.
Going into the 3rd and last game was bewildering, because it could still be a runaway game if one team exploded with marks. I've seen it happen before. The star bowler of this game turned out to be none other than Tootie. Tootie picked up the 6-7-10 pin split in the 7th frame (nice bowling). The winner all boiled down to the final game although no one could actually name the winner by the 9th frame of game 3. Here are the final game scores: Generals = 806 for total pins = 2280, Team 11 = 733 for total pins = 2343, Team 12 = 790 for total pins = 2393 with Team 12 as the winner by 50 pins.
Good bowling everyone, and now let's have some fun Wednesday at Sweepers!!!
May we all wish Marion Latch a Get Well Soon and a fast return to her outstanding bowling.
